The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a General Internist with an interest and training in Obstetric Medicine to be based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Royal Alexandra Hospital is one of Edmonton’s largest and longest serving hospitals, offering general and specialized medical and surgical health services, and featuring one of Canada’s busiest Emergency departments. Located in the heart of Edmonton’s city centre, the Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a diverse community stretching from downtown Edmonton to western and northern Canada. The hospital operates 746 beds (320 in medicine), cares for almost half a million patients annually, and employs over 4,800 full-time and part-time staff.
The successful applicant will cover clinical service commitment for Obstetric Medicine and General Internal Medicine at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Clinical Services include but are not limited to: inpatient Obstetric Medicine consult service, outpatient Obstetric Medicine clinics, inpatient internal medicine clinical teaching units and inpatient and emergency consultations.
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in General Internal Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and minimum of 9 to 12 months of training in Obstetrical Medicine. Individuals interested in the education of trainees are encouraged to apply; an interest in research will be an asset.
Key accountabilities of the Internist will include, but will not be limited to, health services delivery and fulfillment of the academic mission of Obstetric Medicine and General Internal Medicine through medical education, research and administration. The job description as it pertains to these areas may be individualized.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
