The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a bone marrow transplant physician to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.
The University of Alberta Hospital and Cross Cancer Institute jointly provide care for patients with malignant and non-malignant hematologic disorders for the Edmonton region and northern Alberta. The hematology group within the Departments of Medicine and Oncology consists of approximately 20 physicians. There are active clinical trials and basic research activities at both sites, encompassing the entire spectrum of hematologic malignancies, as well as active teaching programs at all levels.
The successful candidate will provide clinical care for patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and will participate in other clinical and academic activities of the hematology division. In addition, the candidate will be expected to take on a role as Lead for the Alberta North section of the Alberta Blood and Marrow Transplant Program. He/she will assume accountability and oversight for the care delivered to patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation for patients from the northern half of Alberta. The individual will also be expected to promote research, teaching and quality improvement initiatives related to allogeneic stem cell transplantation.
Candidates will be an MD (or equivalent) and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Hematology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). In addition, the candidate should have prior specialized training and clinical experience in the field of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Prior administrative and organizational experience would be an asset. The position will be accountable to the Director, Division of Hematology and Edmonton Zone Hematology Lead, as well as the Director of the Alberta Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.
The successful candidate will be offered an appointment in the Department of Medicine, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Oncology. Academic rank will be based on experience and qualifications. Remuneration will be on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP), which offers a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.
