The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for the joint position of academic Division Director and Zone Clinical Section Head of Gastroenterology. The successful candidate will be offered a University of Alberta tenured or tenure track appointment at the rank of Full or Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine.
Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier academic medical institutions and is recognized among the world’s top 100 medical schools. The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine is one of the largest Gastroenterology and Hepatology centers in Canada with 27 academic physicians and 2 tenured non-clinical faculty members. Its leading-edge research program is supported by more than $3 M annual research funding, its Centre of Excellence in Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Immunity Research, with 45 research trainees. The Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Alberta Hospital is a major clinical referral centre for Northern and Central Alberta and its adjoining Provinces and Territories. State-of-the art clinical care is delivered through a modern therapeutic endoscopy facility, a large subspecialty in-patient unit and a modern ambulatory care centre. Specialized multidisciplinary programs for patients with chronic liver disease, liver transplantation and inflammatory bowel disease provide comprehensive ongoing care, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy, enteral and parenteral nutrition services as well as gastrointestinal motility testing services are provided by division members. The Division’s large education portfolio includes all levels of medical education, as well as learning programs for allied health professions.
The Clinical Section Head in Gastroenterology is responsible for all clinical gastroenterology services, including endoscopy, in 8 hospitals in the Edmonton Zone. This responsibility is generally shared with Facility Section Heads in each Hospital. The academic Division Director is responsible for the academic mission of the Division, including recruitment, advancement, research and medical education.
The successful candidate will be will be recognized internationally through their scholarly accomplishments and will provide dynamic and visionary leadership in academic Gastroenterology. Preference will be given to individuals with administrative experience in an academic setting. A doctorate degree in Medicine (M.D. or equivalent) and certification in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) are required.
Remuneration will be on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP), which offers a very competitive remuneration package with excellent benefits.
