The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for 2 Academic Luminal Gastroenterologists to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital.  Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.  The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff.  

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.  The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine currently has 20 MD members and is one of the largest GI and hepatology centers in Canada.  It manages a leading-edge research program involving 45 graduate and undergraduate students; over 3 million dollars in basic and clinical research funding annually and has developed the Center of Excellence in Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Immunity Research.  As a major referral centre, the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Alberta Hospital has a highly specialized consultation and advanced therapeutic endoscopy facility, a state-of-the-art in-patient unit and highly skilled gastroenterologists, hepatologists and gastrointestinal scientists.

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Gastroenterology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).

Key accountabilities of the position will include, but will not be limited to, up to 50% of inpatient services, that is ward, hospital consults and urgent outpatients. The remainder of the clinical time will be spent on outpatient services as well as participation in the Alberta Colon Cancer screening program. Candidates are expected to have a strong interest in teaching, as the University of Alberta Hospital GI Division is responsible for teaching GI residents, Internal medicine and other specialty residents and medical students. Depending on the candidate’s interest or expertise, a small proportion of the position could involve administrative related GI tasks or research. ERCP is not part of the job description.

The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (A-ARP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
