The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Luminal Gastroenterologist to be based at the Sturgeon General Hospital in St. Albert. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to 39,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions and has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The Division of Gastroenterology in the Department of Medicine currently has 20 MD members and is one of the largest GI and hepatology centers in Canada. It manages a leading-edge research program involving 45 graduate and undergraduate students; over 3 million dollars in basic and clinical research funding annually and has developed the Center of Excellence in Gastrointestinal Inflammation and Immunity Research. The Sturgeon General Hospital is one of affiliated hospitals located in the Edmonton Zone.
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Gastroenterology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).
Key accountabilities of the luminal gastroenterologist position will include, but is not limited to delivery of general outpatient GI consultations and endoscopic procedures at the SGH site, provision of in hospital consults as well as consults coming from the emergency room. In addition the position includes participation in the Alberta Colon Cancer screening program. ERCP is not part of the job description.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
