The Division of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Health Services, is accepting applications for the position of an Academic Thoracic Surgeon with advanced training in Thoracic Oncology, Interventional Bronchoscopy/Endoscopy and Robotics. The Division of Thoracic Surgery presently consists of 5 thoracic surgeons and performs the full range of thoracic operations with a strong focus on minimally invasive pulmonary, mediastinal and foregut procedures. The Division is located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, which combines state of the art clinical facilities with outstanding opportunities in both clinical and basic science research.
The Division is recruiting an Academic Thoracic Surgeon at the Assistant Professor rank to start July 1, 2017, although this date is flexible. The successful applicant will have a job description which includes a significant commitment to teaching and education research, and will be expected to establish a training program in Thoracic Surgery which is recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Clinical components of the position will include a full range of thoracic surgery including minimally invasive thoracic procedures, robotic thoracic surgery and interventional airway and esophageal procedures. Protected time for teaching and education research will be provided. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the teaching of medical students and residents.
Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent with completed training in Thoracic Surgery and must be eligible for College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta licensure. The applicant must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants who hold an advanced degree in education with a track record of excellence in teaching.
