The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applicants to apply for a contingent tenure track position of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor within the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics, specializing in Pediatric Echocardiography.

The successful applicant will join 12 academic pediatric cardiologists who work together with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team to offer advanced and innovative care for the entire spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease in children and adults. The Stollery Children’s Hospital sees approximately 10,000 children and adults with congenital heart problems and performs 10 to 12 pediatric heart transplants, over 600 cardiac surgeries, and over 300 cardiac catheterizations annually.  This program includes one of the largest pediatric mechanical cardiac assist device programs in North America, and performs trans-catheter valve implantation as well an interventional-surgical hybrid procedures.   

In addition to clinical care, the division is active in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and has a fully accredited Pediatric Cardiology subspecialty training program through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. The Program attracts numerous international subspecialty fellows as well, and houses an active basic and clinical science research program, collaborating locally, nationally and internationally.

Interested applicants must hold an MD and must have completed a subspecialty residency in pediatric cardiology, and advanced training in echocardiography for at least 12 months. A clinical and research specialty interest within the discipline of echocardiography, and demonstrated leadership experience in an echocardiography facility will also be advantageous. This position will be comprised of approximately 60% clinical service with the balance of time having an emphasis on educational, academic research and administrative duties.  Contributions to education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are expected from all faculty. Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful academic alternate funding plan.
