The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications from research focused Neonatologists for a contingent special continuing position of Assistant Professor within the Department of Pediatrics, Neonatology division.
The successful applicant will join the Northern Alberta Neonatal program. The Northern Alberta Neonatal program offers integrated secondary, tertiary and quaternary newborn services to northern and central Alberta and is a referral centre for northern and western Canada. It provides comprehensive neonatal care in a regionalized, publicly funded system, with over 28,000 deliveries in the referral area and 3,000 admissions per year. The Neonatal Transport program conducts approximately 500 transfers of babies per year.
The Department of Pediatrics is looking for a clinician scientist/investigator to engage primarily in neonatal research. The division is very active in clinical and basic science research programs, specifically in the areas of oxygen transport, developmental biology and resuscitation, as well as translational patho-physiology. The successful applicant will be given dedicated time for research.
The position also has a limited clinical component. The successful individual will join a team of 24 neonatologists and nurse practitioners, at five clinical sites, who deliver the full range of neonatology services, including general and cardiovascular surgery and neonatal follow-up. The successful incumbent will care for inpatients on NICUs throughout the Edmonton Zone and participate in the on-call schedule.

Interested applicants must hold an MD, hold a FRCPC in Pediatrics or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Completion of a clinical fellowship in neonatology is also required. Candidates with research experience in neonatal resuscitation are preferred.
Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful clinical alternate funding plan.
