The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) invites applicants to apply for a clinical tract position within the Division: Community Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics.

The successful applicant will join two pediatricians specializing in child maltreatment and provide medical and leadership coverage for the Child and Adolescent Protection (CAP) Centre of the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

The successful candidate will have responsibilities for clinical service, teaching of multilevel learners and working with a multidisciplinary team in the CAP Centre. Through liaison with Human Services child protection workers, the Edmonton Police Service, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Zebra Child Protection Centre the CAP Centre is able to provide a coordinated and collaborative medical response to child abuse.

The successful candidate will be a pediatrician with at least 5 years clinical experience in the area of child maltreatment assessment and intervention. Training, experience, and expertise in the medical evaluation of physical and sexual abuse is required. A thorough understanding of the developmental consequences and developmental and mental health needs of children who experiences child maltreatment is essential. The candidate should have a history of having demonstrated the necessary interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with academic and community colleagues. Experience with the child death review process an asset.

Interested applicants must hold an MD, have accredited pediatric specialty training by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and be eligible for licensure with CPSA. The candidate must be certified or eligible to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The position is an 0.8 FTE A-ARP position. Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a completive and highly successful academic alternate funding plan (A-ARP). The candidate shall have admitting privileges to the Stollery Children’s Hospital and participate in an equitable on call service for the CAP Centre.
