The University of Alberta School of Business invites applications for the Winspear Chair in Accounting within the Department of Accounting, Operations and Information Systems. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Accounting and be a leading academic with a strong record and demonstrated promise of continuing excellence in accounting research and teaching. In addition, the incumbent will play an important leadership role in the interactions with accounting practitioners and the business community. Candidates should have a strong research record with several publications in leading accounting journals such as the Journal of Accounting Research (JAR), The Accounting Review (TAR) and the Journal of Accounting and Economics (JAE).

Responsibilities include: teaching accounting courses in undergraduate and graduate programs, conducting research, publishing research in top tier accounting journals, and service to the School’s academic activities. Proficiency in English is required.

The Chair will be appointed for a seven-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to a performance review by the Dean, Alberta School of Business. This appointment will be at the full professor level. Should the appointment not be renewed, the appointee will retain their position as a continuing academic staff member with tenure.

Candidates may also be considered at the Associate Professor level. For this level of appointment, candidates must have a PhD in an appropriate field, with demonstrated research and teaching potential. If appointed at the Associate Professor level, the candidate will hold the title Winspear Professor in Accounting. This appointment will be for a seven-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to a performance review by the Dean, Alberta School of Business. Should the appointment not be renewed, the appointee will be subject to regular tenure procedures within the School.
