The University of Alberta School of Business, Department of Finance and Statistical Analysis invites applications for a senior research academic to hold the Alfred Sorensen Chair in Energy, Environmental and Reputational Risk Management. The successful candidate will hold a PhD and be a leading academic with an extensive record of research accompanied by excellence in teaching with an international reputation. The Chairholder will provide intellectual leadership in teaching and research in the Department and the Faculty. In addition, the incumbent will play an important leadership role in the interactions with those members of the business and professional communities who are active and involved in the energy and environment sectors with an interest in the area of reputational risk management. Responsibilities include: teaching finance courses in undergraduate and graduate programs, conducting research, publishing research in top tier journals, and service to the School’s academic activities. Candidates should have a strong research record with several publications in leading finance and economics journals, including those that target energy. Proficiency in English is required. 

The Chair will be appointed for a five-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to a favourable performance review by the Dean, Alberta School of Business. The appointment to this position will be at the full professor level.  Should the appointment not be renewed, the appointee will retain his/her position as a continuing academic staff member with tenure.

Candidates may also be considered at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. For this level of appointment, candidates must have, or be close to completing, a PhD in an appropriate field, with demonstrated research and teaching potential; appointment in the latter case will be contingent upon the completion of the PhD by an agreed-upon date. If appointed at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, the candidate will hold the title Alfred Sorenson Professor in Energy, Environmental and Reputational Risk Management. This appointment will be for a five-year term with the possibility of renewal, subject to a favourable performance review by the Dean, Alberta School of Business. Should the appointment not be renewed, the appointee will be subject to regular tenure procedures within the School.
