Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure Information and Analytics, this position provides leadership and technical expertise critical to the long-term direction and financial viability of services provided by the various departments of Facilities & Operations.

The Manager, Infrastructure Data Analytics provides leadership and direction to a team of specialists charged with collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data from various sources throughout the university.  Through critical analysis, subject matter expertise, and professional judgement, this position and unit will provide thoughtful reporting and recommendations to senior leadership ranging from Managers to the Vice President.  The role strives to ensure efficiencies and reduced operational costs for campus infrastructure for all five university campuses.

In addition, as the foremost expert on infrastructure data analytics, the Manager provides a critical link between technical expertise and business intelligence.  The Manager bridges the gap between information technology/analytics expertise and the knowledge of each client department’s business priorities and processes.  Working as part of the Infrastructure Information and Analytics team, the Manager is responsible for bringing different groups both internal and external, and their data sets together to benefit the university, as well as facilitating the pursuit of new and continuous improvement throughout F&O.  The Manager proactively engages and collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders. 

Ultimately, this role provides critical input and recommendations to support strategic infrastructure decisions.  The University of Alberta building infrastructure is expansive and includes 1.7 million square meters of administrative, teaching, research and technical laboratory space with multiple campuses and locations.  The Manager is responsible for their area budget including ensuring that personnel and financial resources allocated are utilized in an effective and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

Provide Leadership and management of a multi-disciplinary analytics team and supporting consultants/contractors.

  • Set goals, objectives, and key performance indicators; complete performance evaluations of the team and support opportunities for training and continuous improvement 
  • Manage relevant consultants and external contractor resources including scoping, design, and technical documents to assist with the tendering process and selection of contractors/consultants.

Using project management standards, lead the planning, development, and implementation of new and innovative projects and initiatives in alignment with F&O's strategic objectives.

  • Drive the planning, development, and implementation of several Infrastructure Information and Analytics initiatives.
  • Coordinate resources and participation by various stakeholders and sources to ensure successful implementation of initiatives.
  • Where possible, create tools and user self-serve options to begin leveraging the power of data analysis on demand to make data-supported and strong decisions.
  • Collaborate with business unit leaders across the portfolio to monitor the life cycle of existing business tools and prepare business cases for and make recommendations for renewal and replacement of these tools through project teams.

Provide technical expertise and strategic advice to inform senior management/executive decisions and contribute to strategic goals and continuous improvement by using data analytics to provide accurate, and relevant information to support new processes and decisions.

  • Provides oversight, technical expertise, strategic advice, and recommendations on a broad range of issues based on gathered metrics.
  • Provide strategic advice to the senior team on risk management and financial impacts related to facility development and operations based on data capture, analysis and review.
  • Facilitate/recommend changes in direction based on data analytics.
  • Articulate and clarify strategic institutional goals into data analytics supportable outcomes.
  • Using professional judgment along with a strong background in facilities management to analyze data sets, interpret results, and present relevant, compelling, and impactful solutions and reports to clients and senior leadership to support and substantiate desired outcomes and influences.

Engage and collaborate with stakeholders across F&O, the University, and externally to support initiatives under the Infrastructure Information and Analytics group.

  • Promote collaboration and trust between Infrastructure Information and Analytics and client groups and senior leadership by using critical listening skills to ensure business requirements are understood and addressed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Undergraduate degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical or Buildings Engineering accompanied by a P.Eng. designation), Mathematics (with emphasis on Statistics and Data Science}, or a Bachelor of Commerce (e.g. Management Information Systems).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities design, operations and management, data analysis, business and process improvement, or equivalent.
  • Project management certification is considered an asset.
  • Expertise in infrastructure data analytics as well as a broad knowledge of related emerging technologies.
  • Excellent knowledge of building systems and facilities operations and management. A background in sustainability and energy management is desirable.
  • Experience with modem building automation controls systems, facilities operational networking and integration, and Internet of Things is an asset.
  • Proven experience with data analytics tools such as Tableau, Pentaho Bl, and others is an asset.

In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement, this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range of $66,265 - $110,441.
