The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada invites outstanding applicants for a full-time tenured or tenure-tracked position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Timber/Biomaterial Engineering. The successful candidate will work closely with the recently established NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Engineered Wood and Building Systems, in further advancing the field of massive structures built with bio-based materials, primarily timber. The successful candidate will also be a key contributing member of The Nasseri School of Building Science and Engineering, a multi-disciplinary unit established in 2014 to offer a leading edge educational and research program in building science, building engineering and industrialized construction manufacturing.

All candidates must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer in the Province of Alberta, and hold a PhD or are expected to graduate with a PhD within a reasonable timeline in a related discipline. The successful candidate must have demonstrated a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and research excellence in one of the following disciplines:

  • Innovative structural products made with bio-based materials, such as timber
  • Structural, fire or acoustic performance of structural/building systems constructed with bio-based products

Short-listed candidates are expected to have an excellent track record of being a team player and successful research grant applications.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (including School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering) is committed to securing a position among the leading schools in North America. With a present complement of over 60 professors, research in the Department is vigorous and covers all major areas of Civil, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering. The department currently has ten NSERC Industrial Research Chairs, two Canada Research Chairs and five endowed chairs. Our graduate program presently has an enrollment of over 470 students, including approximately 220 PhD students.
