The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FoMD) is seeking an Associate Dean, Research - Facilities and Cores. The effective access to, and use of, FoMD research infrastructure is essential to optimizing research activity within the Faculty. The Associate Dean, Research - Facilities and Cores oversees operations of a defined group of core facilities that serves hundreds of laboratories within FoMD and other faculties at the University of Alberta. This includes identification of funding for existing cores and developing business plans for implementation of new core facilities. Total annual operating budget is approximately $1.8 million; there are 14 full-time staff associated with the cores.  

The Associate Dean, Research – Facilities and Cores also provides oversight for Health Sciences Laboratory Animal Services (HSLAS) and provides support to university committees related to animals.

This is an important leadership position in the Office of Research, reporting to the Vice-Dean, Research. Along with the core facilities and HSLAS, this individual is involved in a number of activities in the Office including the review process for CRCs and CFIs and the development of research policies and procedures. The time contribution for this position is 0.35 FTE. The term of appointment is three years with potential for renewal for a maximum total term of eight years. This position is open only to current full-time faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. The ideal candidate will have an active research program and possess an excellent knowledge of FoMD research core facilities and HSLAS.
