Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications for a full-time Palliative Care Physician with expertise in Oncology to join the Edmonton Zone Palliative Care Program at the Cross Cancer Institute, and the Department of Oncology, Division of Palliative Care Medicine.
The Edmonton Zone Palliative Care Program delivers comprehensive integrated palliative care in the community, acute care and oncology facilities, hospices, and a tertiary palliative care unit. The Cross Cancer Institute is a freestanding integrated cancer treatment and research facility that functions as the tertiary oncology referral centre for Northern Alberta. The Department of Symptom Control and Palliative Care offers pain and symptom control consultation and community liaison services for outpatients and inpatients who are under the care of the Cross Cancer Institute. The Division of Palliative Care Medicine provides academic leadership and collaboration in palliative care education and research.
The successful applicant is expected to participate in the full range of clinical (80%), teaching (10%), research (5%) and administrative (5%) activities of the Department of Symptom Control and Palliative Care and the Division of Palliative Care Medicine, and to demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional excellence. The position includes sharing on call responsibilities for the Department on weekdays and the Edmonton Zone Palliative Care Program on weekends.
Candidates must have an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Completion of residency or equivalent training in Palliative Medicine is also required.
Remuneration is based on Alberta Health Services Palliative Care compensation regulations. The successful applicant will be appointed to the Alberta Health Services Medical Staff. If the individual does not already have an appointment with the Division of Palliative Care Medicine, then the individual is expected to apply for one within a timeframe appropriate to stage of career development.
