The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services, is inviting applications for geriatric psychiatrists at the Villa Caritas Hospital.

Located in Edmonton, Villa Caritas, which opened in January 2011, is a 150-bed facility that serves our most vulnerable seniors—those with complex mental health and medical needs. Villa Caritas provides appropriate, timely intervention and care for seniors with a focus on treating their conditions and transferring them back home or to an appropriate care setting. Villa Caritas is located on the Misericordia Community Hospital campus in west Edmonton.

In collaboration with their colleagues, the successful candidates will deliver inpatient care and consultation services to hospital patients. These positions involve participation in the program’s on-call in-patient schedule while maintaining a community-based practice.  Service to out patients will be provided through community geriatric psychiatry.  Weekly consultation with the consultants in continuing care is expected. , and day clinic services on a weekly the Continuing Care Psychiatry Consult Services program. There is future opportunity to participate in telepsychiartry and provide Rural Clinic consulting services. Remuneration is based on a fee-for service basis.

These physicians will be expected to seek a Clinical Academic Colleague within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Psychiatry, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.  The successful candidates must have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.  Preferred candidates will have geriatric psychiatry background and must have specialist qualifications, FRCPC or equivalent.
