Using expert knowledge of ultra high vacuum, atom-resolving, atomic force microscopy and condensed matter physics, the Research Associate will extend our current knowledge of atom-scale devices built on silicon surfaces.

The successful candidate will collect data related to atomic force microscopy analyses of silicon surfaces, will contribute to setting research directions, and assist in establishing research methods, data evaluation protocols and standards. All activities will take place in consultation with and under the direction of Dr. Robert Wolkow. 

Qualified applicants must have a PhD in Physics or Chemical Physics and a minimum 4 years of previous post-doctoral research experience in atom resolving ultra high vacuum atomic force microscopy as demonstrated by their publication record. The successful candidate will have the experience necessary to operate our atomic force and scanning tunneling microscopes and the associated ultra high vacuum devices to perform expert level, atom-resolved measurements of silicon surfaces. The RA will also have a record of having performed the analysis of such results and have led in the writing of research papers and the preparation of and presentation of findings.

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has a term of two years, with the possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at www.hrs.ualberta.ca and an annual salary range of $58,210 to $80,050.
