The Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, and Alberta Health Services – Edmonton Zone invite applications for a Pediatric Neurosurgeon.

The neurosurgery program at the University of Alberta is committed to the improvement of health through excellence in patient care, leadership in education and research, and preventative initiatives directed at the promotion of neurological wellbeing. The Division of Neurosurgery currently has 14 members and provides all neurosurgical services for a wide geographic area serving a population of over two million people. Every subspecialty is represented and several subspecialties, such as spine, neuro-oncology, and neuro-vascular intervention, are expanding. The University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton includes one of the few operating room (OR) suites in Canada with a state-of-the-art 3T MRI integrated into the OR theatre and is home to the Brown and Scott Advanced Imaging and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery Unit, which allows outpatient neurosurgical treatment of many neurological conditions.

The successful candidate will participate in a call schedule with the other pediatric neurosurgeons and will hold a contingent tenure track Faculty appointment with the Division of Neurosurgery, University of Alberta, at an appropriate rank. The Pediatric Neurosurgeon will participate in both research and academic efforts: initiating new clinical research projects, entering patients into on-going clinical trials, and supervising students, residents and fellows. The successful candidate will be an experienced neurosurgeon with a demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence and strong ability to work in a team based environment.

Qualifications include an MD or equivalent, an active Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) in Neurosurgery and fellowship training in Pediatric Neurosurgery. The candidate must be eligible for licensure in the College of Physicians of Alberta. The preferred candidate will have a postgraduate degree (Masters/PhD) and significant academic interest in research, teaching, and clinical practice.
