The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications from research focused neonatologists for a contingent tenure-track position within the Division of Neonatal Perinatal  Care, Department of Pediatrics, University of Alberta. 

The successful applicant will join the Northern Alberta Neonatal program. The Northern Alberta Neonatal program offers integrated secondary, tertiary and quaternary newborn services to northern and central Alberta and is a referral centre for northern and western Canada.  It provides comprehensive neonatal care in a regionalized, publicly funded system, with over 28,000 deliveries in the referral area and 3,600 admissions per year. The Neonatal Transport program conducts approximately 800 transfers of babies per year. The successful applicant will also join the University of Alberta, one of the top five research and teaching intensive universities in Canada.  It is home to over 40,000 students and over 14,000 faculty and staff.  

We are  looking for a clinician scientist/investigator to engage primarily in neonatal research. Preference will be given to candidates with research expertise in neonatal antimicrobial stewardship and quality improvement and/or immunology.  The division is very active in biomedical research programs, specifically in the areas of oxygen use, developmental biology, resuscitation and translational pathophysiology as well as health services studies. The Department of Pediatrics also has several newer areas of focus in antimicrobial stewardship and pediatric immunology.  The successful applicant will have dedicated time for research and will be encouraged to join the Women and Children's Health Research Institute (WCHRI) the only research institute in Canada to focus on both women's and children's health, including perinatal health.   

The position has a limited clinical component. The successful individual will join a team of neonatologists, nurse practitioners, and clinical academic colleagues, at six clinical sites, who deliver the full range of neonatology services, including general and cardiovascular surgery and neonatal follow-up. The successful incumbent will care for inpatients on NICUs throughout the Edmonton Zone and participate in the on-call schedule. 

Interested applicants must hold a MD, and an FRCPC in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (or equivalent) and be eligible for independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Candidates with graduate degrees and research experience are preferred. 

Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be based on the income scale of a competitive and highly successful alternate funding plan.
