The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation at the University of Alberta invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Recreation with a focus on Tourism and/or Leisure Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019.

The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation creates and shares the best understandings and applications of physical activity, sport, and recreation for the public good. With 39 Faculty members and over 1,100 undergraduate and graduate students studying across a range of disciplines, the Faculty is complex, richly diverse in its research and integrated in its make-up. The Faculty was founded in 1964, making it one of the oldest faculties of its type in Canada and one that has long been a leader at an international level as exemplified by being the first faculty of physical education and recreation in the Commonwealth to offer a doctoral degree (1967). We continue to build on this legacy with a vision of “outstanding achievements in learning, discovery and citizenship that contribute to quality of life and the health of our communities through physical activity, sport, and recreation”.

The Assistant Professor of recreation and leisure studies will teach into our Bachelor of Arts in Recreation, Sport and Tourism (BARST) and contribute to the Faculty’s advancement of leisure studies-related research, through a specialization in recreation, sport and/or tourism. Applicants must have completed a PhD and relevant postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidate will bring a record of achievement commensurate with appointment at an Assistant Professor level. This should include a record of publication in quality peer-reviewed journals as well as demonstrated potential to secure Tri-Council research funding. The successful candidate will be expected to make a contribution to high-quality undergraduate and graduate teaching and research.
